Message from the Mayor
Canada’s two official languages*, English and French, have always been an integral part of Moncton’s history. Our rich blend of English and Acadian tradition gives our city a unique cultural flair.
Today, we are proud to be an officially bilingual city – the first municipality in Canada to have been so declared by its municipal council. The harmony and energy that exists between both linguistic groups is part of Moncton’s charm, cultural vibrancy, and sustained economic development.
As a corporation, the City of Moncton strives to serve its citizens and stakeholders in the official language of their choice. We therefore encourage feedback as this helps us improve our level of service.
I firmly believe that our community’s bilingualism is a strength, a unique asset and a source of pride that sets us apart as a community, and I will promote this at every opportunity.
George LeBlanc
Mayor
*The Official Languages in Canada and New Brunswick are English and French.
