Firefighter Recruitment Information

The Moncton Fire Department is composed of both professional and volunteer firefighters. Moncton’s 40 volunteer firefighters play an essential role in the Fire Department. When there is not enough help with the 112 professional firefighters (in the case of extreme emergencies, for example), volunteer firefighters are called to help them.

The standard for future recruits is based on pre-employment training. The standard establishes criteria for a candidate’s physical qualifications; all other testing will follow the City of Moncton and the Fire Department’s policies for hiring, while providing some flexibility for any previous experience, skills and education.

The Fire Department encourages women to become firefighters. There are not many female firefighters, even today. Women’s participation in all areas of municipal service is essential for the healthy and equitable development of our community. Any interested women are invited to join the City of Moncton’s Fire Department.
