Councillor Blair Lawrence

Blair Lawrence is serving his second term as City Councillor to the residents of Ward 2, having been first elected in 2012. Known for his strong commitment to education and culture, Blair brings to this position more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, administrator and school district supervisor. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Allison University, a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University, and a Master of Arts (Drama) from Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (University of London, UK).

Before retiring from the education field, Blair led the implementation of educational programs for New Canadians attending schools in the Anglophone South and East school districts. Blair has served as a member of ACPI (Association canadienne des professeurs d’immersion) and TESL (Teachers of English as a Second Language) as a conference organizer and presenter, and as president of the Hillcrest Home and School Association. He also has considerable experience in budget management, planning and policy development.

Blair’s belief that arts and culture greatly contribute to the well-being of the community is apparent by the many cultural initiatives that he has participated in. He is a co-founder of the Capital Theatre School for the Performing Arts and sits on its Advisory Board, a member of the Choeur Neil-Michaud’s Board of Directors and a member of the HubCap Comedy Review. Blair has performed at the Capitol Theatre and on CBC radio’s Basic Black and Madly Off in All Directions.

Blair is married to Diane Ross, and they are proud parents of Alex, Ian and Mia.  Blair considers it a privilege to serve the community as councillor. When he isn’t working, he enjoys running, golfing, fly fishing and skiing. He looks forward to collaborating with his fellow councillors to help grow a strong and resilient City.
