Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee
The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Committee was created in 2004 under the guidance of Mayor Lorne Mitton in an effort to get a better sense of what Moncton’s youth would like to see in Moncton, what the city is doing well and what we can improve on.
The committee is comprised of three representatives from each of the four local high schools: Bernice MacNaughton, Harrison Trimble, Moncton High and École L’Odyssée.
The Mayor selects the committee members from applications solicited through advertising, notices in schools, and the media. The Mayor will select the committee members using the following criteria:
- Committee members shall be residents of the City of Moncton;
- Committee members shall attend one of the four local high schools;
- Committee members should reflect a representative cross-section of Moncton’s youth;
- Youth must be prepared to volunteer their time and serve actively on the Youth Advisory Committee;
- Members should participate as individuals and not as representatives of any organization or special interest group.
We are currently looking for new members.

Mandate
The Youth Advisory Committee will endeavour to enrich and enhance the quality of life of youth in the city, identify barriers, form partnerships with the community, and act as a public forum for issues affecting youth. As a means to achieve this, the Committee’s mandate will be to organize an annual public forum with the purpose of identifying and discussing issues of interest to youth.
Responsibilities
The Youth Advisory Committee shall be responsible to:
- Organize and implement an annual forum, YouthFest;
- Encourage youth to participate in the forum;
- Follow-up on actions to be carried out as a result of the forum.

YouthFest
YouthFest is an annual event organized by the Mayor's Youth Advisory Committee. It is structured to provide the mayor and Council with feedback on a number of important issues. This year's YouthFest attracted close to 100 students from Moncton's four high schools.
