The city solicitor is the chief legal counsel for the City of Moncton. The Legal department provides support to City Council, civic departments and municipal staff to assist in the delivery of services to the citizens of Moncton.
The Legal department provides:
- legal advice to City Council and committees of Council;
- legal advice to the City administration;
- legal representation on behalf of the City before the courts and administrative tribunals, boards, and commissions; and
- legal services in other matters such as negotiations, acquisitions, risk management, and insurance matters.
Providing these services requires constant monitoring of developments in the law, procedural requirements, legal authority, and policy direction.
The City’s Legal department consists of two lawyers, one senior real estate officer, and two support staff.
