City of Moncton Seeking Applications for Art Gallery Tour

July 28, 2016

MONCTON – The City of Moncton is seeking applications from interested art galleries to participate in the 2016 Art Gallery Tour, taking place on October 1 from 10 am – 3 pm. During this annual self-guided, animated and interactive event, which is offered free of charge, participants have the opportunity to meet artists working in the Greater Moncton area.

“I encourage all art galleries to register for the tour and be part of this exciting event,” said Mayor Dawn Arnold. “Residents are inspired by the creativity displayed by our local artists and this event is sure to highlight the local talent while giving visitors a true glimpse into what our cultural community is all about.”

Both commercial and non-commercial galleries are eligible to participate. Galleries chosen to participate must adhere to the following criteria:
Must be located in the tri-community area.
Admission must be free of charge for the tour.
Studios and workshops are eligible to participate on the following conditions:
- They must be located in a publicly accessible area.
- They must be clean, safe and well organized.
- They must have art on display during the tour.
Studios, galleries or workshops in private homes are not eligible.
Artists who don’t have a studio in a public area or building are welcome to register to display their work within the City Hall lobby during the event. To register for a space at City Hall, artists must email their contact information to culture@moncton.ca. Artists may also pair up with other galleries for the day, and expose their works there.
Restaurants and other public locations that display the work of local artists are eligible on the following conditions:
- They must meet the criteria listed above.
- They must only be open for the tour. Restaurants that are open at the time of the tour are not eligible, so as to avoid disturbing clients of the restaurant and to prevent tour-goers from feeling like they are intruding on clients’ privacy.
All participating locations must be open for the entire duration of the tour, and must have someone on site to welcome the public as part of the Galleries Tour.
Galleries are responsible for their own programming; however, the City will promote it.
Interested participants must fill out the online registration form at moncton.ca before Thursday, August 11, 2016.
This annual event is being presented as part of Culture Days, a national celebration of arts and culture. Groups and artists interested in presenting an event are encouraged to visit www.culturedays.ca for more information.
