City of Moncton opens new rink at Riverfront Park

January 8, 2015

MONCTON – On Friday, January 9, Monctonians will be able to enjoy a new outdoor skating rink, located at Riverfront Park. It has been built to celebrate Moncton's 125th anniversary, as well as to welcome Ron MacLean with the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour, taking place on January 10-11.

"Moncton's humble beginnings were at the Petitcodiac River, and it is only fitting that we begin our commemoration year by hosting this national festival at this location, where the tidal bore's renewed energy is a source of pride and inspiration for our residents," said Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. "The City is pleased to provide a new opportunity for citizens to enjoy winter and getting active with their family and friends."

The new rink is specifically located off Assomption Blvd. at Riverfront Park, and will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Adequate lighting is provided for evening skating, and pick-up hockey will be permitted. It is highly recommended that all skaters wear a helmet during outdoor ice skating activities. For updates on ice and rink conditions, visit www.moncton.ca.

Details regarding the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour can be found at http://www.hometownhockey.com/. Other outdoor rinks located throughout the City will also open over the next few days, except for ponds, which aren’t yet deemed safe for skating.
