Draining of Jones Lake to investigate sinkholes

May 28, 2013

MONCTON – The City of Moncton wishes to advise residents that Jones Lake will be drained on Tuesday, May 28 until Wednesday, May 29 in order to investigate sinkholes near the control gate structure for the lake.

Sinkholes were detected behind the headwall and a CCTV investigation will occur under the culverts on Main Street. In order to investigate these sinkholes, it required to drain Jones Lake for the equipment to operate properly.

The investigation will determine if any further infrastructure has been compromised and determine what repairs are necessary. An area near Givan Drive (between the trail and the spillway) has been barricaded and is closed to the public.

The City of Moncton apologizes for any inconveniences and thanks residents for their cooperation in this matter.
