FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ match schedule unveiled

MONCTON – The official match schedule for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ was provisionally approved today by the FIFA Executive Committee during a meeting held in Zurich.

Fans can now mark their 2015 calendars with the world’s largest women’s football tournament that will dominate the Canadian landscape from June 6 until July 5, 2015.

Moncton will host seven World Cup games, including a Round of 16 matchup. All games will be played at Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium on the campus of the Université de Moncton.

“We are very excited to be welcoming some of the best women’s soccer teams in the world to Moncton in 2015,” said Moncton Deputy Mayor Merrill Henderson. “The Women’s World Cup is one of the most significant sporting events in the world and this will further enhance Moncton’s reputation as the sports and entertainment capital in the Maritimes.”

“What an incredible opportunity for Moncton and New Brunswick to showcase itself to a worldwide audience. This event will also help promote the benefits of leading a physically active and healthy lifestyle, which is vital to rebuilding New Brunswick,” said Dorothy Shephard, minister responsible for sport and recreation. “By hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, we are continuing to build on our already strong reputation as a world-class location for sporting and recreational events.”

“I’m very pleased that the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium will be playing such a key role in the  FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, “said Raymond Théberge, President and Vice Chancellor of Université de Moncton. “With millions of followers worldwide, an event of this magnitude provides an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our campus and our university.”

For the first time, the 2015 tournament will welcome 24 teams from around the world, a milestone in women’s football as the beautiful game continues to grow in all regions of the globe.

The National Organising Committee has also announced that the highly sought-after tickets will go on sale in the third quarter of 2014.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ will be preceded one year earlier by the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The official match schedule and host cities for Canada 2014 will be announced in the coming months and ticket sales will begin in August 2013.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ will take place in six cities from coast to coast in Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Vancouver. The tournament will feature 24 nations, 52 matches and the best women footballers in the world.
