FIFA announces Moncton as a Host City for FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Canada 2014

MONCTON – Yesterday, FIFA has announced that, once again, Moncton will be a host city for a major world soccer event—the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014. On the heels of Moncton being announced as an Official Host City for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ from June 6 until July 5, 2015, the under 20 women’s event is another significant boost for Moncton. Matches in Moncton will take place in August 2014.

“We are absolutely ecstatic that Moncton will be an Official Host City for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014,” says Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. “Moncton will, once again, be the place to be in August 2014 to watch some of the best women’s soccer in the world. And, this event sets us up nicely for the matches that will take place here in 2015 as part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™.”

“I want to congratulate Moncton on being named one of four host cities for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014,” adds New Brunswick Premier David Alward. “On the strength of its dedicated volunteers and community spirit, Moncton continues to build on its international reputation as a sports and entertainment events leader in Atlantic Canada. This international event will draw soccer fans from across the Maritimes and generate important economic benefits for Moncton and New Brunswick.”

“I want to also convey my congratulations to Moncton on being named an Official Host City for this prestigious international women’s soccer event,” says Moncton MP Robert Goguen. “Moncton continues to attract world class sporting events to the city. Once again, congratulations to all those involved who made this happen.”

Moncton is one of four Official Host Cities awarded matches as part of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014; the other host cities are Edmonton, Montreal and Toronto. The 2014 tournament will consist of 16 teams and will be the world-class event for women's youth footballers. The tournament will be hosted August 5-24, 2014. The City of Moncton is an Official Host City for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. Hosted every four years it is the world’s premier single-sport event in women’s sport.
