June is Recreation & Parks Month

MONCTON – The City of Moncton’s Parks and Leisure Services is celebrating Recreation and Parks Month throughout the month of June to create awareness of the value and important benefits of recreation and parks to individuals, families and communities.

There will be a variety of events throughout the month to get people active and engaged as well as reacquainted with the many parks, trails and facilities available in Moncton.

“Moncton has lots of green space and options for active transportation and active living and we want to encourage all Monctonians to take advantage of this groundwork,” said Rod Higgins, General Manager of Parks and Leisure Services with the City of Moncton.

Beginning on June 1, everyone is invited to the in motion Trails Day! Join us on the Riverfront trail from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and get active by walking, running or biking along the trail.

Other events throughout the month include:

  • June 1 - in motion Trials Day
    Join us on the Riverfront Trail form 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • June 1 – YMCA Healthy Kids Day
    A free community event for children and families from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Greater Moncton YMCA.
  • June 2 - Commuter Challenge
    Walk, Bike, take the bus. Sign up for the Commuter Challenge Canada by visiting moncton.ca
  • June 8 – National Get Outdoors Day
    How will you get active in the great outdoors?
  • June 8 – Irishtown Nature Park Day
    Guided nature tours will be offered at the park from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • June 21 - National Go Skateboarding Day
  • June 21 – Celebrate the Longest Day of Play
    Take advantage of the most daylight hours of the year and play outside longer!
  • June 22 - Pools open for the Season
    Centennial Beach and Knights of Pythias pool (43 Fergus St.)
  • June 26 – YMCA Public Swims ($2)
    Beginning June 26 until August 31, every Wednesday (1-3 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), come for a swim in the pool.
  • June 29 – in motion Playground Day
    Come to 120 Evergreen Drive from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of play at the playground.
  • June 30 – in motion at Centennial Park
    From 1 p.m to 4 p.m., come and enjoy a fun day at Centennial Park! Activities include swimming, tennis, lawn bowling, a climbing wall, obstacle course, hiking or biking.
