June is Recreation & Parks Month

MONCTON – The City of Moncton is celebrating Recreation and Parks Month throughout the month of June to create awareness of the value and important benefits of recreation and parks to individuals, families and communities.

There will be a variety of events throughout the month to get people active and engaged as well as reacquainted with the many parks, trails and facilities available in Moncton.

“Moncton has lots of green space and options for active transportation and active living and we want to encourage all Monctonians to take advantage of this groundwork,” said Rod Higgins, General Manager of Parks and Leisure Services with the City of Moncton.

Beginning on June 1, everyone is invited to the in motion Trails Day! Join us on the Riverfront trail from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and get active by walking, running or biking along the trail.

Other events throughout the month include:

June 1-7 - Commuter Challenge
Walk, bike or take the bus. Sign up for the Commuter Challenge Canada by visiting moncton.ca

June 7 – National Health and Fitness Day

June 14 – National Get Outdoors Day

June 14 – Irishtown Nature Park Day
Activities for all ages will be offered at the park from 1-4 p.m. (Rain date June 15)

June 21 - National Go Skateboarding Day

June 21 - Pools open for the Season
Centennial Beach and Regional splash pads

June 25 – YMCA Public Swims ($2)
Beginning June 25 until August 31, every Wednesday (1-3 p.m.) and Sunday (2-5 p.m.), come for a swim in the pool.

June 29 – in motion at Centennial Park
From 1 p.m to 4 p.m., come and enjoy a fun day at Centennial Park! Activities include swimming, tennis, lawn bowling, wall climbing, obstacle course, hiking and biking.
