MFD launches “Keep the wreath green” campaign

December 2, 2013

MONCTON – The Moncton Fire Department strives to remind all residents about fire safety year-round, but especially during the Holidays due to extra fire hazards this season brings.

To this end, the Moncton Fire Department will be installing wreaths illuminated with green bulbs in front of all fire stations. As a symbolic gesture, each time a residential fire occurs, a green bulb will be replaced by a red bulb.

Residents must take extra precautions during this time of year as accidents are more likely to occur as we untangle Christmas lights, light candles and sit around the fire.

Here are some useful fire prevention tips:

  • Don’t put Christmas trees in front of an exit door or heaters.
  • Make sure extension cords are in good shape and properly secured.
  • Don't hang Christmas stockings from the mantel when the fireplace is in use.
  • Never leave a fire unattended and clean the ashes regularly.

Let’s try to keep all the bulbs green! The “Keep the wreath green” campaign takes place from December 1 to 31, 2013.
