Moncton Cultural Mapping Project

September 25, 2013

MONCTON – As a follow-up to the Cultural Mapping Forum, which took place on September 17, 2013, the City is looking to residents for help to give their knowledge to identify additional cultural resources. Residents are asked to go to moncton.ca/artsandculture, click on the cultural mapping link on the left side of the page to see how they can participate. Deadline to submit feedback is Friday, October 4th.

The City of Moncton joins leading municipalities in undertaking a Cultural Mapping Project that will promote the City as a creative and vibrant community where cultural assets are playing an increasingly important role in economic and community development.

Part of the cultural mapping process involves collecting, analyzing and producing information in order to recognize cultural resources and isolate issues. Feedback from the community and stakeholders is key to this process.

The Cultural Mapping Project was undertaken as a means of strengthening the link between the City and its important cultural, business and community partners to realize the opportunities presented by these plans to both strengthen the city’s cultural sector and increase culture’s contribution to larger City plans and priorities. Moncton is the first municipality in Atlantic Canada to undertake a comprehensive cultural mapping project.
