Moncton Fire Department hosts Open House

October 3, 2014

MONCTON – Mark your calendars! On Saturday, October 11, the Moncton Fire Department will be hosting its annual Open House event in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. This year, the event is moving to the Hildegard Fire Station (99 Hildegard Dr.), and will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“There will be lots for families to check out during this event, and children will be especially interested in meeting Magic, our arson detection dog, visiting the Ronald McDonald Fire Safety House, or participating in the Junior Firefighter Challenge,” said Charles LeBlanc, Fire Prevention and K-9 Officer with the Moncton Fire Department.

“We’re pleased this year as well to welcome other emergency service providers, including the Canadian Red Cross, Ambulance NB, Codiac Regional RCMP, Canadian Blood Services and the Southeast Regional Service Commission (SE Recycle), who will be on site to provide important information. The City of Moncton will also on site be promoting its new citizen Emergency Measures notification system, Sentinel,” added Fire Chief Eric Arsenault.

Various fire trucks and rescue vehicles will be on display, and demonstrations using the Jaws of life will take place at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A fundraiser barbeque has also been organized, with proceeds to benefit the Moncton Hospital Burn Unit and Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

The Moncton Fire Department Fire Prevention Division will also be at Home Depot, on Saturday, October 4, providing information to shoppers.
