Moncton to participate in Earth Hour

March 24, 2015

Please turn your lights off between 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015

MONCTON – The City of Moncton is once again participating in Earth Hour, an endeavour in which people in cities around the world will be turning off their lights for one hour to highlight the need for action against climate change. Moncton residents and businesses are encouraged to turn off their lights between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Several civic facilities are participating this year by switching off all "non-essential" lighting on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 pm. The trail lighting in Centennial Park and lighting in all other parks will not be altered for safety and security reasons.

How can you participate? Easy! Spread the word and challenge family and friends to find ways to spend sixty minutes in the dark on Saturday, March 28! Whether you’re stargazing in Centennial Park, enjoying a candlelit dinner, or listening to music, turn off your lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, and make this Earth Hour a success.
There will also be a free Earth Hour event on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 1 p.m. at Centennial Park. This electricity-free event is for all ages and will feature snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and sledding. A limited amount of complimentary equipment rentals are available. There will also be acoustic music, a bonfire, as well as hot chocolate and refreshments.
