Odour in Victoria Park

February 26, 2013

MONCTON – The City of Moncton would like to advise citizens of a distinct odour that is permeating in the area of the Victoria Park skating rink.

“What is happening is that the grass under the ice is undergoing anaerobic decomposition and this process produces an unpleasant odour,” says Dan Hicks, Parks and Grounds Supervisor with the City of Moncton. “Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do until the ice thaws.”
The odour is not harmful and residents can continue to use the ice surface for skating. City crews will continue to monitor the situation to assure the well-being of residents.
The City apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary situation may cause, and appreciates the patience of residents.
