Official Acadian flag-raising and launch of Acadie Rock Festival

August 12, 2013
MONCTON – In partnership with the Acadie Rock Festival, the City of Moncton is proud to present a free show during the raising of the Acadian Flag and the Acadie Rock festival launch. The show will take place at City Hall (655 Main Street) this Thursday, August 15 at noon.
“The City of Moncton is proud of its Acadian heritage, and is proud to celebrate it. We also value our partnerships with institutions that significantly improve our citizens’ quality of life. This is why we are happy to team up with the Aberdeen Cultural Centre to kick off the Acadie Rock festival and raise the Acadian flag at the same time on August 15,” said Paulette Thériault, Moncton’s Deputy Mayor.
“Now in its second year, the Acadie Rock festival, is growing and we see great things in its future. Everyone is invited to come celebrate National Acadian Day and help us open the Acadie Rock festival during this noon-time ceremony, as well as participate in the many activities the festival has to offer,” stated René Légère, executive director of the Aberdeen Cultural Centre.
The event will also feature soprano singer Lisa Roy, who will offer a rendition of the Ave Maris Stella, as well as the dynamic musical trio Vishtèn, who will play a selection of pieces from the Acadian folklore repertoire for the occasion.
Everyone is also invited to participate in the traditional tintamarre (noise parade) and evening show. Led by percussion group Triolet d’Nord, the tintamarre will take off from the Aberdeen Cultural Centre at 7 p.m., on August 15, and will make its way towards Riverfront Park, where people will be able to party to the sounds of Zéro ° Celsius, Radio Radio, Vishtèn, The BackYard Devils and Caroline Savoie until midnight.
