MONCTON – The City of Moncton, the organizers of the Mosaïq Multicultural Festival and the IAAF World Junior Championships Local Organizing Committee wish to advise the motoring public that various road closures will take place in the City due to the Championships, which will take place from July 19-25, 2010.
Sunny Brae and Université de Moncton campus
Closures in the Sunny Brae neighbourhood and on the Université de Moncton campus are as follows:
Beginning Wednesday, July 14, Pascal-Poirier Street is closed from Morton Ave. Beginning Thursday, July 15, access routes to the CEPS building on the Université de Moncton campus will have controlled access.
From 7 a.m. on Monday, July 19, Antonine-Maillet Avenue will closed, as well as the following streets:
- Hillside Drive from Massey Avenue to Braeside Drive;
- Massey Avenue from Hillside Drive to Braemar Drive (intersection remains open);
- Center Street from Hillside Drive to Braeside Drive (intersection remains open);
- Braeside Drive from Hillside Drive to Parkland Drive;
- Parkland Drive from Massey Avenue to Clément-Cormier Street;
- Parkview Street.
Staggered closures are expected. Closures will be in place during peak times such as opening and closing ceremonies and as directed by staff and emergency personnel.
Parking passes will be delivered to the homes of residents of the above-mentioned areas so their access to these areas will proceed without interruption. Should residents have any questions or have not received their parking pass, they may call Moncton 2010 headquarters at 853-2010.
Downtown Closures
In the downtown, the Mosaïq Multicultural Festival will take place from July 22-24 around the City Hall plaza. Street closures related to this event begin at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, and will continue until 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 25.
Closures in this area are as follows:
- Main Street from Sommet Lane to Mechanic Street (leaving both Sommet and Mechanic open to traffic);
- Botsford Street from Queen Street to Main Street (leaving the Botsford/Queen intersection open to traffic except for southbound traffic).
An alternate closure may occur if traffic volume requires it or if deemed necessary during the event by staff and emergency personnel. In such cases, Alma Street would be closed to public traffic (authorized access only); public traffic will be rerouted on Church Street.
Alternate transportation options
Finally, Codiac Transit is offering a special pass for $10, applicable from July 19-25. These can be purchased at any Shoppers Drug Mart and some major hotels in the Greater Moncton area; details regarding special shuttles and detours can be found online at www.codiactranspo.ca.
Finally, a park & ride system is also available. It is free of charge and will offer transportation to members of the public from the Moncton Coliseum to Hillside Drive (located in the Sunny Brae neighbourhood just behind the Taillon building on the Université de Moncton campus). It will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour from the time people drop off their car until they arrive at the stadium. This includes a two- to five-minute walk from the bus drop-off to the main gates of the stadium. Buses will run every 10 minutes.
The City of Moncton greatly appreciates the cooperation and patience of residents during this international event.
