Winter Storm Advisory

February 8, 2013

MONCTON – With a winter storm approaching, the City of Moncton encourages residents to stay home and only travel if it is absolutely necessary. For the latest information, including any changes to Codiac Transpo schedules (if required), follow us on Facebook (facebook.com/cityofmoncton.villedemoncton) and Twitter (@CityofMoncton). Codiac Transpo customers can also call 857-2008.

If you do need to travel during the storm, please drive with extreme caution. We also remind pedestrians to exercise extra caution when crossing a roadway, due to significantly reduced visibility.

City of Moncton work crews are on stand-by for snow clearing and street/sidewalk salting operations. Citizens are reminded of the winter overnight parking ban, and are also encouraged to avoid street parking throughout the storm, to assist snow clearing operations. Residents may consult the City’s Snow Plan at www.moncton.ca/Residents/Snow_Clearing.htm.

Finally, due to the expected high winds, power outages are possible. As such, residents are encouraged to have a basic emergency kit on hand, to ensure basic needs for their family for at least 72 hours, including flashlights and a radio, batteries, medications, water and non-perishable food.  More information is available at: www.moncton.ca/Residents/Emergency_Preparedness.htm
