“Meet the Artists” at the Moncton Gallery: Senior High School Students’ Art Exhibit

March 6, 2013

MONCTON – The City of Moncton invites members of the public to a “meet the artists” reception on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Moncton City Hall.

Mayor George LeBlanc is pleased to host this reception to celebrate the March art exhibit in the Moncton Gallery by high school seniors of Greater Moncton. Students whose artworks are on display at the gallery will be at the reception to meet with the public and talk about their art. Members of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra will also be in attendance and will be performing throughout the evening.

The exhibit, coordinated by Bernice MacNaughton High School visual arts teacher, David Brooks, showcases the artworks of high school students from the Greater Moncton area who are enrolled in their school’s visual arts program.

“For many students this is the first time they have exhibited their work outside of their schools,” explains David Brooks. “This exhibit gives students the opportunity to show their work in a professional venue and share their creativity with the community.”

“I'm absolutely ecstatic that my work is being exhibited! I've been working on this particular piece for a few months now and I'm extremely proud of it,” says Angel Williams, a Bernice MacNaughton High School student.

“This is a great annual event and helps promote the importance of youth participation in the arts. Every year, I’m completely awestruck by the talent of these students,” says Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc. “The City of Moncton is proud to host this exhibit in the Moncton Gallery and I encourage everyone to see for themselves the amazing artistic ability of our local youth.”

One of the Gallery’s most popular shows, the High School Students’ Art Exhibit draws in a large number of visitors every year. The Moncton Gallery is located in the lobby of City Hall at 655 Main Street and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The art exhibit by Senior High School Students is on display until April 4, 2013.
