Woven around the music of the award-winning songwriter, this P.E.I. love-letter stars Lennie Gallant himself presenting his folk-rock and roots music, alongside comedic stories, Island legends, and poignant tales in a multimedia format that utilizes stunning visual works from celebrated Island painter and sibling Karen Gallant. The show employs a 12 x 20 ft screen on which images are constantly in motion behind five of the Island’s most multitalented bilingual musicians featuring violin virtuoso Sean Kemp, and the wonderful Acadian singer Patricia Richard [Ode à L’Acadie]. This dynamic, energetic show is storytelling at its best and has been a critically acclaimed sold out hit of over 120 shows.

When the Mi’kmaw originally named the Island Abegweit, which loosely translated means cradled on the waves, there was a legend that came with it. They say the Great Spirit Glooscap took all the most beautiful colors of the world, mixed them together, and then used them to paint the Island into existence. In Searching for Abegweit, this legend is brought to life as Karen Gallant has taken all the most beautiful colors of the Island and incorporated them into her paintings which are paired with the songs and stories to add a whole new dimension to Gallant’s powerful lyrics. Through his songs, the show touches on the various cultures and stories of the Island from the past and present in a unique and vibrant way. People have returned to see this show many times over, bringing friends and family, each time coming away with something new. The testimonials from fans rave about how they laughed, cried, cheered and learned so much more about this strip of land from this unique production.

A recurring theme of the show is PEI’s role as the birthplace of Canada, making it not only a celebration of the Island, but of the country as a whole. A number of songs and stories actually traverse the country. While all the songs are Gallant originals, the musical includes Acadian and Celtic tinged numbers and Mi’kmaw songs that will have you rocking in your seat to Canada’s cradle on the waves.
