Compost
Compost is a rich, fertile soil, created by recycling organic vegetal materials. The Westmorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation produces a limited amount of compost from materials found in our “wet” waste. The compost produced in the Westmorland-Albert Solid Waste Corporation’s Wet Plant has been used on-site and is occasionally used as daily cover on the top of the landfill.
Though some of the materials recycled in our wet waste are used for compost, you can help us maximize material recycled or composted. How? Do not place recyclables in your green bag! Rinse out cans, bottles, and other recyclable materials and place them in your dry bag. A simple step that’s even easier than it sounds!
You can further reduce materials going into landfills by composting at home. For more information on backyard composting, visit the Composting Council of Canada’s website at www.compost.org.
