Zoning and Planning
The Greater Moncton Planning District Commission (GMPDC) plays an important role in improving the quality of life of residents by determining where they live, work, learn and play.
GMPDC is responsible for preparing statutory plans, policies and studies that guide Moncton’s growth and development. Your input is key in creating these plans to make sure they reflect Moncton’s long term goals.
Specifically, GMPDC manages the city’s physical form—it’s look and feel. The future direction and physical form of the City is defined in the Municipal Development Plan (PlanMoncton) which is prepared with public input and adopted by City Council.
The primary implementing tool of the Municipal Plan is the Zoning By-law which in turn defines what land uses can occur on property as well as how buildings will be built (ie. height, setbacks, access, etc). Building Permits and subdivision plans are reviewed to ensure that developments conform to the policies in the Municipal Plan and Zoning By-law
