How To Get in motion

Some ideas to be “in motion” everyday:

  • Get off the bus a few blocks before your stop and walk the rest of the way to work or home;
  • Fit in a 15-minute walk each morning, during your lunch break or after supper;
  • If you are a stay-at-home parent, try fitting in a 10-minute TV fitness program or dance with your children;
  • Go to the park and actively play with your children;
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator;
  • Take stretch breaks at your desk or while riding on the bus; and
  • Walk to do your errands (you can count those steps even walking around the mall!).

Some other ideas that you can do to be “in motion” as a family or with friends:

  • Go to a local community rink and skate together;
  • Go for family walks;
  • Swim together;
  • Learn a new activity as a family (i.e. tai chi, bowling, golf, skiing, etc.);
  • Nature hikes are great year round;
  • Bike together; and
  • When going out with friends, think of activities where you can include physical activity!
