What's HappeningThe Thomas Williams House and Victorian Tea Room are now closed for the season. |
Built in 1883 by prominent Monctonian Thomas Williams, treasurer with the Intercolonial Railway, this heritage home stands as an elegant symbol of local life during the Victorian era.
Thomas Williams and his wife, Analena, purchased the property beyond town limits in 1882 and built their impressive house the following year to serve as a home for their rapidly growing family. Six of their 11 children were later born in the house, which remained a private dwelling for the Williams’ descendants until 1983.
The 12-room house is a fine example of Second Empire architectural style. A large, screened verandah extends from the main entrance across the front of the house and wraps around the side. Today, the Thomas Williams House is a designated municipal heritage site located at 103 Park Street in Moncton.
