Playgrounds

Neighbourhoods

It is important to provide quality public play spaces for our children and families. Here is information on some of the quality playground programs available through the City of Moncton.

Playground Program

We are pleased to see that you and your neighbours are interested in working with us to provide exciting family recreational opportunities in your neighbourhood. Get on board--We know you'll enjoy the increased leisure opportunities this program has to offer!

Applying for a playground program

All forms must be returned to the City's Parks & Leisure Services, 100 Worthington Ave, Moncton NB, E1C 9Z3.

Playgrounds

Neighborhood parks and playgrounds are popular spots to drop in and spend some time with friends. Many playgrounds offer programs for children of all ages throughout the months of July and August. There is no registration required and no cost to participate.

Programs will be coordinated by the individual playground leaders with the guidance of a neighborhood group and will feature different activities each day. Look for information to be distributed to your area leading up to the summer months. For general information, please phone 506-853-3516.

Information to Consider

  • The last day of school is the last Friday in June.
  • Labour Day is the first Monday in September, and school starts the following Tuesday.
  • The maximum level of staff funding is for nine weeks at 35 hours per week. Please make every effort to develop a program for your playground that is family oriented. This may mean supervising during some non-work hours but will alleviate the public baby-sitting perception.
  • Activities on your playground can be geared toward specific age groups at different times. We can assist your group in publicizing this information to the neighbourhood. This has been successful in some areas as it alleviates the problem of the leader trying to entertain children of a variety of ages and interests at the same time. This programming does not mean that children of certain ages are not allowed on the playground at specific times, all children are welcome to come at all times, however the programming may not be geared toward their age group at all times.
  • It is the neighbourhood group’s decision as to what takes place on rainy days. The neighbourhood group is responsible to communicate their wishes to the playground leader. If you send your leader home, you can either utilize the hours for another time or pay them for their work.
  • Each neighbourhood group will be given a small grant to purchase program supplies for the summer. Receipts must be kept for the end of summer evaluation.
  • All playground activities will be conducted on-site. Families are welcome to plan site activities and have the leader assist in coordination, however, the leader must stay on the playground for regularly scheduled hours. Special events can be organized by your group and/or your leader should you want to have special guests on your playground (i.e. fire, police, Moncton Library, etc.) Please consult the Parks & Leisure Services community contact list for ideas for community programming, or contact the department at 506-853-3516.
  • Any issues with respect to the performance of your staff person should be reported as early as possible to Parks & Leisure Services at 506-853-3516 to ensure the matter is attended to and solved promptly.
