Is there a way to receive status updates on my application?

Given the number of applications we receive for different employment opportunities, only those selected for interviews will be contacted. Upon completion of the hiring process, applicants will receive an email advising them that the position has been filled.

Several factors affect the timeline and status of hiring processes. Applicants can access an overview of the different phases by visiting the Application and Hiring Process webpages. In the spirit of remaining fair to all, once a competition is in progress, no information is provided to the participants until the process is completed.

Can I contact someone for additional information or to assist with technical difficulties?

Our Human Resources Department is available to assist with clarifying information and/or technical support throughout the hiring process. You can contact them by emailing employment [at] moncton.ca (employment[at]moncton[dot]ca) or by calling 506.877.7707.

I have a disability and would like to request assistance with my online application and/or request an accommodation for the selection process. How can I do this?

The City of Moncton is an equal-opportunity employer, and this extends to our hiring process. If you are having difficulties submitting an online application, please contact our Human Resources Department: employment [at] moncton.ca (employment[at]moncton[dot]ca) or (506) 87707707. During the interview process, you can inform the recruiter about the specifics of your request for an accommodation. To ensure that the accommodation can be arranged, please coordinate with the recruiter as soon as you are contacted.

What is an accommodation and why would I ask for one?

Simply put, if you have a disability (physical or mental) that would place you at a disadvantage during the selection process, you may request a reasonable modification or adjustment. The modification is intended to allow you an equal opportunity to demonstrate that you can meet the essential functions of the position.

Examples:

  • A job competition requires the completion of a written test using a computer. The applicant is visually impaired, so they request a screen reader to complete the test.

  • A person who requires a wheelchair is invited for an interview, and requests that the building and meeting room where the interviews are being held is wheelchair accessible.

  • A job competition requires the completion of a time-limited, written test. One of the applicants has a diagnosed learning disability. In advance of the interview and test, they request extra time to complete the written assignment.

How do I know that my personal information is safe?

All information submitted through our online recruitment system is secure, and numerous precautions are taken to ensure the data submitted by candidates is not compromised. This includes implementation of strict security standards and 24/7 monitoring of data. More information can be found here.

Furthermore, the only personal information applicants must provide during the initial recruitment phase is their name, email address, and phone number (for contacting purposes throughout the interview process, as well as any documentation and/or information that demonstrates their eligibility for the position. Certain applicants may provide additional information, such as an address, although this is not required.

How do I find out the salary for a position that I am interested in?

Applicants can visit the City’s Salaries and Wages chart which outlines all positions and their salary range, separated by union group.

How long does the City hold onto resumes?

Your resume will only be held for the duration of the hiring process. Resumes submitted as part of an application are not held for future vacancies. If you are unsuccessful in your application for a position, a separate application for any future vacancies will be required. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit moncton.ca/careers regularly for job postings.

Does the City hire summer students?

Of course! The City is proud to hire approximately 200 students across different municipal departments each year. The number of positions available, and which departments are hiring, varies from year to year.

Most years, job offerings for students are posted in mid-December or early January. The interview process typically begins in late March or April, with student employment generally running from early May to early August. Given the time period for these positions, the City predominately hires university students, as they finish their school year earlier. However, we encourage any interested student to apply.

When the City is recruiting summer students, applicants can review all available positions online and submit their candidacy for their first and second choices.
