What is to be done

• Temporary water line installation
• Renewal of existing watermain and/or sewer main
• Renewal of water and/or sewer service to the property line
• Installation of underground electrical and communication line
• Replacement of removed curb and sidewalk

• Landscaping and driveway restoration

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Pedestrian access: will be maintained at all times.
• Vehicular access: may need to be temporarily restricted while work is being performed during the day.
• Parking and driveway access: may be temporarily restricted. You will receive notice from the City should your driveway access be affected.
• Water interruptions and temporary waterlines: The City of Moncton may provide temporary, above-ground water service and, should there be a disruption to service, all efforts will be made to provide you with written notice the day before. You may experience temporary discoloration caused by sediment in the new water lines. The water is chlorinated and safe to drink; however, if this occurs, run COLD WATER until it appears clear.
• Drinking water: It is recommended that you keep a supply of drinking water in your refrigerator as the temporary pipes are above ground, exposed to direct sunlight, and the water will tend to be warmer (but is still safe to drink).
• Garbage collection: The schedule will not change. Continue to place your garbage at the end of the driveway as you normally would.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

• Upon completion of the work, the contractor will reinstate your property, as well as the City’s right-of-way land affected by the construction, to as close to pre-existing conditions as is possible.
• In the event of excessive dust, cleaning of buildings is the responsibility of the property owner.
• To assure and protect all parties, pre-construction photos have been taken. The contractor is insured for property damage and liability until the completion of all work.

Microsurfacing is a pavement preservation technique which consists of applying a thin layer of asphalt on top of the existing asphalt. It is a cost-effective way to extend the life of an existing road. Microsurfacing is most effective on a street that is showing its first signs of deterioration, such as when the asphalt surface has begun to wear off, a process that is commonly referred to as raveling.

Microsurfacing is not intended for streets that have many surface defects, but rather to preserve a street that is still in fair to good condition.

A less intrusive way to renew existing water mains is through a process called Cured In Place Pipe (CIPP). This renewal method requires pits to be excavated, usually at the valves, where augers can be used to clean the pipe. After the cleaning, a new pipe liner is installed along with a grout that is cured in the pipe, creating a new pipe inside the old one.  This approach greatly reduces the amount of excavation within the street and greatly reducing the negative impact on neighbouring businesses and reidences.

Intersection upgrades can include various design enhancements such as adding lanes, changing alignments and installing traffic lights.

Partial and/or Full depth recycling or reclamation, is a process that rebuilds worn out asphalt pavements by recycling the existing roadway. Old asphalt and base materials are pulverized using a specialized machine called a reclaimer. On top of the pulverized material, water is added to reach the optimal moisture content for compaction and then a variety of materials, such as dry cement, lime, fly ash, or asphalt emulsion, are incorporated for stabilization.

A reclaimer is used again to mix all the materials. After shaping and grading, the new base is compacted to produce a strong, durable base for either an asphalt or concrete surface. Since this method recycles the materials on site, there is no need to haul in aggregate or haul out old material for disposal.
