What's a Community Event? 

These events and festivals are:

  • Created in Moncton
  • Coordinated by community groups and volunteers
  • Held in Moncton each year
  • Usually intended for residents, but might attract tourists
  • Usually held outdoors on municipal properties such as parks or public spaces

What's a Major Event? 

These events are:

  • Created by a provincial, regional, national or international organization
  • Are often hosted in Moncton through a local club, association or organization
  • Often held in a different city every year
  • Meant to attract tourists to Moncton, but they also draw residents

What's a Private Event? 

These events are: 

  • Organized by individuals or for-profit commercial organizations (e.g., wedding coordinators, corporate retreat organizers, fitness instructors)
  • Typically intended for a limited group of attendees by invitation, qualification, restricted admission, or ticket sales 
  • Usually one-time occurrences
  • Usually held indoors
  • Occasionally, they can be approved for Outdoor Event Zones (such as public parks and plazas). However, organizers must agree that the public will enjoy ongoing access to the area during the event, and the City reserves the right to cancel the booking at any time to accommodate free, public events scheduled for the same time.
