Mayor Shawn Crossman responds to community concerns following July 18 incident

The City of Moncton is aware of the incident that occurred on July 18, which has generated significant concern and discussion within our community.

We recognize that incidents of violence can have a profound impact, particularly when they raise concerns about the safety and well-being of members of our community. We acknowledge the concern expressed by residents and community organizations, especially members of our Muslim community, who may be experiencing heightened fear and uncertainty as the circumstances surrounding this incident continue to be investigated.

City administration has been in contact with the RCMP regarding this matter and has been advised that the investigation remains active. The City has also reached out to the Moncton Muslim Association to open a dialogue, listen to concerns, and ensure an ongoing channel of communication.

Our position remains clear: we unequivocally condemn all forms of violence, racism, discrimination, and hate. We are committed to fostering a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and welcome.

The City will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in regular contact with community partners. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident, and we remain committed to working alongside our partners to support an inclusive, welcoming, and safe Moncton for everyone.
