Update on Major Infrastructure Renewal Project along Main Street

Location: Between Mechanic Street and the Moncton-Dieppe city limit 

Date: Tuesday, April 22 to (approximately) Friday, October 10   

Work details: Major infrastructure renewal project. Below is list of completed and ongoing/upcoming works: 

Completed:  

  • Installation of a storm sewer outfall at the Petitcodiac River, along with localized work on Main Street, including nighttime lane reductions and temporary closures/detours.
  • Closure of the Riverfront Trail, from the Settlers Landing to the Running Room (300 Main St.), due to ongoing outfall construction. 
  • Installation of storm sewer pipes within the Chateau Moncton parking lot. 

Ongoing/upcoming: 

  • Installation of storm sewer pipes along Main Street from the Chateau Moncton to King Street. Lane reductions will be in effect throughout this period.
  • Upgrades to the intersection of Main Street and King Street and related utility work. This phase will require a closure of King Street (between Rabbi Lippa Medjuck Street and Main Street) for several days, followed by lane reductions.
  • Milling and paving of Main Street between Mechanic Street to the Dieppe city limits. Lane reductions will be in effect. 

In total, crews will install approximately 357 metres of new storm system, 277 metres of renewed sanitary lines, and complete repairs to the water system.  

Traffic impact: Work continues to be carried out in phases, with each phase affecting both vehicle and pedestrian access differently. The City will issue public service announcements in advance of each new phase to keep residents and commuters informed.
