Paying for your parking session depends on where you are parked.

• When parking at one of our public lots – find the nearest parking sign and either scan the QR code or enter the zone code into your HotSpot app and follow the prompts. 
  
  Be sure that your license plate is correctly entered, add the duration of your parking session, and follow steps to pay for your session.
   
• When using on-street parking – find a metered parking spot and follow prompts to pay. You can either add change to the meter based on the length of your intended stay, or you can enter the code shown on the parking meter into your HotSpot app and follow prompts to pay. 

When parking at one of our city-owned lots – you do not need to download the HotSpot application to pay for parking. Simply open your camera app, scan the QR code, and follow prompts to check out. Ensure a payment method is added and that the correct license plate is entered. 

When monitoring our lots, the By-Law team will scan license plates to validate that parking has been paid for, using HotSpot. 

A parking ticket will be issued if a vehicle is parked without a paid parking session, or with an expired parking session.

Change is accepted at on-street parking meters. Pay stations will soon be installed at city-owned parking lots, allowing for cash and card payments. 

• City-owned lots:
  • 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Monday to Friday: $2.50/hour
  • 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Saturday and Sunday: Free
  • 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. : $3 flat rate (all lots except Riverfront Park), Free (Riverfront Park)
     
• On-street parking:
  • Downtown metered parking rates and hours:
    • 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday - $2.50/hour for two-hour maximum spaces
    • Free after 6 p.m. on weeknights and on weekends and holidays
  • Hospital metered parking rates and hours:
    • 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday - $2.50/hour for two-hour maximum spaces
    • Free after 10 p.m. on weeknights and on weekends and holidays

There is some free parking available depending on when and where you are choosing to park.

• City-owned lots: Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Free
• Riverfront Park lot: 6 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Free
• Downtown metered spots: Free after 6 p.m. on weeknights, on weekends, and holidays.
• Hospital metered spots: Free after 10 p.m. on weeknights, on weekends, and holidays.

Yes – parking must be paid for at the beginning of your parking session.

When using the HotSpot app, you are able to top-up your parking session in the event that you need to stay longer. Hourly maximums still apply.

Using HotSpot – either through the app or by scanning the QR code on posted signage, is required when parking at a city-owned parking lot. 

HotSpot is not required when parking at on-street parking meters. Parking meters accept change and card payments.
