Common causes of water leaks are leaking faucets, malfunctioning toilets, leaking tabs, or ruptured pipes. A leaking toilet alone can cost residents in Moncton up to $60/day when a replacement flapper costs only $20.
In order to prevent leaks, residents should familiarize themselves with the common causes. Residents should also sign-up for an online account at myaccount.moncton.ca and set their water consumption threshold to receive leak alerts. To sign up for leak alerts, follow these steps:
- Login to your account
- Select the "Profile" tab
- Select "Notifications"
- Identify your consumption threshold
- Select "Email" to receive your alerts via email
It is recommended that residents use 1 cubic meter (1000 liters) as their threshold (the minimum amount). In the event that consumption surpasses this amount, residents will receive an alert the following day instead of receiving an unexpected water bill at the end of the quarterly billing cycle.
To determine your threshold, visit the "meter data" tab on your online account at myaccount.moncton.ca and view your consumption to identify the threshold to receive high consumption alerts.
