In-camera City Council meetings are also known as private or closed meetings. The public is not allowed to attend a private Council meeting.
A closed Council meeting or a part of a public meeting that is closed to the public must adhere to the Local Governance Act, Section 68 (1)(a-j) – Closed meetings.
Only the following subject matters may be considered at private or closed meetings. The relevant Local Governance Act paragraph is noted after each item:
- Confidential by legislation – 68.1 (a)
- Personal – 68.1 (b)
- Agreements or contracts – 68.1 (c)
- Land matter – 68.1 (d)
- Government confidentiality – 68.1 (e)
- Legal or privileged advice – 68.1 (f)
- Litigious or potentially litigious – 68.1 (g)
- Security – 68.1 (h)
- Police investigation – 68.1 (i)
- Labour, employment, and negotiations – 68.1 (j)
The City of Moncton schedules private meetings for the second Monday of every month, but meetings are only held if there are items that need to be addressed in a closed meeting.
