Water transmission line repairs

Posted on November 3, 2026 in News

Repair work on both water transmission lines connecting the water treatment plant to the municipalities of Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview is currently underway and will continue over the next several weeks. During this period, residents may experience occasional water discolouration. Water quality will be monitored extensively throughout the repairs and afterward.

The discolouration is caused by manganese deposits that have accumulated in the transmission lines. Changes in flow rates, increased water velocities, and temporary flow reversals required during the repair work may dislodge these deposits, resulting in discoloured water. This discolouration does not pose a health risk. However, residents are advised to avoid doing laundry while the water is discoloured, as it may stain clothing.

Some residents have also reported seeing black sediment in their drinking water. Dr. Brittany Reid, Regional Medical Officer of Health, has confirmed, "There are no health risks associated with this discolouration. I want to reassure residents that my office has been communicating regularly with the three municipalities to ensure drinking water continues to meet all applicable guidelines. Due to the nature of this work, the presence of black sediment was anticipated, which is why Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview notified residents in advance."

The City of Moncton apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks residents and customers for their patience and cooperation during this necessary work.
