The current policy was last reviewed in 2018 and is due for an update. Moncton City Council has established an Ad Hoc Official Languages Advisory Committee to assist in the Official Languages Policy update and in developing an action plan on bilingualism that will build on the work of the Bilingualism in Moncton report.Apply to serve on the Committee Committee Terms of Reference MembershipTwo members of CouncilThree to six citizens of Moncton and/or business/organizational leaders in MonctonStaff support: representatives from Human Resources, Communications, and Legal, as designated by their respective departments.PositionsChairDeputy ChairAll other members of equal standing to fulfill the mandateMandateThe role of the Ad Hoc Official Languages Advisory Committee is to advise on the revision of the Official Languages Policy and the development of an action plan to continue to support and promote bilingualism in Moncton.ResponsibilitiesThe Ad Hoc Official Languages Advisory Committee’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:a) Review, revise, and recommend updates to the City of Moncton’s current Official Languages Policy to ensure alignment with current legislation, best practices, and the evolving linguistic needs of the Corporation and the public.b) Make recommendations to City Council on practical measures we can undertake to continue to support and promote bilingualism in Moncton.c) Support the development of an action plan based on the recommendations.d) Provide input with regards to promoting the City’s status as an officially bilingual city.Operationala) The Ad Hoc Official Languages Advisory Committee’s shall present its final report to Council by April 30, 2026.b) All recommendations will be forwarded to Council through the Committee chair.c) The Committee shall meet on a twice a month basis or on an “as-needed” basis when determined appropriate by the chair.d) The agenda will be the responsibility of the chair, with appropriate assistance by such department staff as assigned by the CAO.e) The preparation of the minutes, the meeting logistics (meeting notices, booking locations, etc.), and the circulation of all documentation, will be the responsibility of the City Clerk’s Office.f) Recommendations may be made by staff or a member of the Committee, but voting will be by appointed members of Council and of the public.
