Extreme Wildfire Risk: Closures and Restrictions in Effect

Due to extreme dry conditions and high temperatures, a province-wide burn ban is in effect until further notice.

With no significant rainfall in the immediate forecast, the City of Moncton will be implementing further restrictions to limit our risk of fires and keep our residents safe.

Until further notice:

  • Effective immediately - Irishtown Nature Park and Mapleton Park are closed.
  • All trails in Centennial Park are closed, but open areas including the pool, playgrounds, splashpad, and other facilities (i.e. lawn bowling, tennis, Rocky Stone field) will remain open.
  • Riverfront Trail, between the West Main traffic circle and the Gunningsville Bridge, is closed.
  • Barbecuing in parks is prohibited – charcoal barbecues in Centennial Park will no longer be available for use.
  • Complete ban on all open fires - no fire pits or outdoor burning of any kind.
  • We ask that residents take extreme caution when using any of our non-wooded trails, open parks and greenspaces.
  • Report any signs of fire or smoke immediately (911).
  • Fireworks are not permitted at any time.
  • Do not toss cigarette butts on the ground.
  • Avoid parking on dry grass.
  • Respect park and trail closures and do not ignore or pass barricades.
  • Keep your 72-hour Emergency Kit up to date.

We are monitoring the situation and will communicate any further restrictions as required.

The City of Moncton has an extensive network of sidewalks that provide safe and accessible routes for pedestrians. In areas where trails are currently closed, these sidewalks offer a reliable alternative for walking, running, and other forms of outdoor activity, allowing residents to continue enjoying the outdoors while adhering to current safety measures and restrictions.

The active wildfire in the Irishtown area is being managed under the direction of the Department of Natural Resources, with experienced wildland firefighters on site and assistance from Moncton, Dieppe, and Riverview fire.

We would like to thank the public for doing their part to keep our community and our emergency response personnel safe by exercising extreme caution and following restrictions.
