Agreement Reached Between City of Moncton and CUPE Local 51 Posted on December 1, 2025 in News Moncton City Council ratified a collective agreement between the City of Moncton and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 51 during its Dec. 1, 2025 public meeting. CUPE Local 51 represents approximately 200 City of Moncton outside workers, which includes truck drivers, labourers, mechanics, recreation operations staff, animal care staff, and rink attendants. “I would like to congratulate both parties for their work in successfully negotiating a new collective agreement,” says Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault. “CUPE Local 51 employees provide incredibly valuable services to our residents and we are pleased to have reached an agreement that is beneficial to and respectful of both parties.”Negotiations began in October 2024. The previous collective agreement expired Dec. 31, 2024. “This agreement is a result of a genuine collaborative effort by both parties,” says Laura Armes, the City’s director of human resources and lead negotiator for the City during this round of bargaining. “This agreement provides labour and operational stability.”The agreement includes a 13.5 per cent wage increase over four years as well as increases to shift premiums, standby premiums, and the boot allowance. This agreement will also see a market adjustment to wages for licensed trades to reflect the higher wages being offered for these roles in the private sector. “CUPE Local 51 is pleased that we have reached a collective agreement with the City of Moncton,” says Darrick Weatherbee, CUPE Local 51 acting president. “We look forward to working together to provide the best services to the City of Moncton residents over the next few years.” The new agreement will be retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025 and will expire on Dec. 31, 2028.
