Moncton Fire Department Celebrates 150 Years of Service

The City of Moncton is proud to recognize the 150th anniversary of the Moncton Fire Department, a milestone that honours a century and a half of courage, service, and commitment to public safety.

Founded on November 9, 1875, the department has evolved from humble beginnings, with horse-drawn fire wagons and volunteer crews, to a highly trained, professional service equipped with cutting-edge technology. For 150 years, Moncton’s firefighters have stood ready to protect lives, property, and the environment, day and night, through emergencies big and small.

Resurgo Place is currently presenting a special exhibition to help the public explore this legacy:

More Than Fires: 150 Years of Service, on display until November 30, 2025.

The hands-on exhibit invites visitors to step into the boots of a firefighter through interactive challenges, explore key moments from the past 150 years, and discover surprising facts about the many roles and responsibilities that go far beyond fighting fires. It’s an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages.

“This anniversary is not only a chance to look back at where we’ve been, but to celebrate the people who continue to serve with pride and professionalism,” says Conrad Landry, Fire Chief. “We’re grateful to Resurgo Place for helping tell the story of how far we’ve come, and where we’re headed.”

The More Than Fires exhibition is a collaboration between Resurgo Place  and the Moncton Fire Department, with the support of the Government of New Brunswick.
